Im playing with Ophidia Spathe since Forsaken and never took it off. Thats my most lovely build and playstyle. There is no a endgame content except Day One raid where that build sucks as a hunter sucks in PvE if compare with other classes. Any other content I'm closing easily with Ophidia Spathe because it's a matter of your weapons.

Shards is probably better in low end content like playlist strikes or seasonal content where you can spam melee for super energy. I recently bought Forsaken and wanted to try out middle tree gunslinger (way of a thousand cuts) with ophidia spathe. The exotic armor piece doesnt really seem to work with knife trick. I can hold 2 melee charges at max as normal, but when my melee cooldown is over i dont get 2 charges. First i get 1, then after a minute (next melee cooldown) i recieve the second charge.
