Feb 25, 2012 · As of this writing there are three Amish settlements in Maine that I am aware of: Smyrna, Fort Fairfield, and Unity. The Smyrna and Unity settlements share ties. Unity is actually what is called a "daughter" settlement of Smyrna. Smyrna is a daughter settlement of Lindsay, Ontario, and Lindsay is a daughter of Aylmer, Ontario. Three more families arrived in 2008. By the end of 2010, there were close to a dozen. Today, the Amish settlement in Fort Fairfield (and neighboring Easton) is made up of 20 families who have migrated from Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, and elsewhere — around 140 people altogether.
