I guess this is to prevent you from locking the yourself out of the car, but it's a bass-ackwards implementation that ends up malfunctioning half of the time. The rapid beep is intended to let you know that you've left the engine on while walking away. I suppose the behavior could be setting-dependent on whether you have walk-away locking enabled. I do.
